Scottie Scheffler: LIV Golfers Should Help Reunify Divided Tours

Scottie Scheffler has urged LIV Golf players to help bring unity back to the two tours. There have been talks in recent months regarding the possibility of the two tours reuniting, but no agreement appears to be in sight.
Newly-Crowned PGA Champion Wants to See PGA and LIV United
Scheffler won the PGA Championship at Valhalla last Sunday after he recovered from blowing a five-shot lead to see off Jon Rahm. The World No. 1 entered the final round with a three-stroke advantage and pulled away after hitting back-to-back birdies at holes 14 and 15. However, he carded a level-par 72 to win the Wanamaker Trophy by five shots.
In the aftermath of his victory, Scheffler revealed that he wants to see the breakaway LIV Golf reunite with the PGA Tour. The 31-year-old, who will be competing at the Charles Schwab Challenge this week, insists he has no idea how soon an agreement will be reached between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, despite a series of meetings already having taken place.

Many big names switched to the Saudi-backed breakaway league in 2022, leaving the PGA Tour short of some of their biggest stars. Scheffler stated that it is up to the LIV Golfers to play their part in a bid to reunite the sport, while also dismissing the idea that he was only competing to make up the numbers at this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge.
“I’m still here playing the PGA TOUR. We had a tour where we all played together, and the guys that left, it’s their responsibility I think to bring the tours back together. Go see where they’re playing this week and ask them,” Scheffler explained . “I mean, I don’t really know. That’s for the higher-ups to decide.I have said it a few times this year. If you want to figure out what’s going to happen in the game of golf, go to the other tour and ask those guys.
It’s LIV Golf Players’ Choice; Scheffler’s Competing Against Them Four Times a Year
Scheffler was one of the PGA Tour players who didn’t join the breakaway league in 2022. Since then, the 31-year-old has been the World No. 1 for over 140 weeks. This has led to many questions about the PGA Tour’s competitiveness and whether he would still be number one if LIV Golf’s biggest players were still on the PGA Tour.
“Who knows? I only get to compete against those guys four times a year,” he said. “That was their choice, not mine… There’s really absolutely no point to that. We get four chances to compete against them. Last week went well. I will get another chance here in a few weeks.”
