Redbirds’ Johnson makes history with career win #368

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Growing up in Germantown, baseball has always been in Ben Johnson’s blood. Now, six years after taking over as manager of the Redbirds, Johnson’s name is part of franchise history.

Thanks to home runs from Michael Siani and Luken Baker, the Redbirds beat Jacksonville on Wednesday night and with the win, Johnson became the winningest manager in the team’s history. Johnson moving past Chris Maloney with career win number 368.

“I’m on the moon right now. The players they gave me a celebration that I’ll never forget. It was a really fun time. They got me a cake. They got me a memento. I’ve got champagne on my desk,” Johnson said. “I mean, it’s pretty awesome right now. I’m flying high, man.”

“We are thrilled to celebrate this historic achievement with Ben,” Redbirds President and General Manager Craig Unger said in a statement. “This milestone is a testament to Ben’s relentless pursuit of excellence, leadership, and deep connection to the community, while developing future stars of the St. Louis Cardinals.”

During a postgame zoom with local media, Johnson had to step away to get take a congratulatory call from St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol.
