International Clubs Reevaluate Osimhen Pursuit Following Delap's Setback
Manchester United might reassess their interest in Victor Osimhen following their unsuccessful attempt to secure their top choice, Liam Delap. PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It is known that The Red Devils have focused on other targets because of Osimhen’s extremely high salary requirements, however, key individuals at Old Trafford haven’t gotten everything they wanted this summer.
Manchester United have announced the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and Bryan Mbeumo is said to be ready for a transfer to Old Trafford from Brentford. However, the club continues their pursuit of another forward.
According to Express, the possible requirement for a pure striker might lead them back toward Osimhen.
As reported by The Athletic, the Nigerians salary requirements have hindered Manchester United's executives from solidifying their interest; however, this situation might undergo a 'reevaluation' as the transfer window progresses.
Last season, Osimhen was on loan with Galatasaray, where he netted 26 times in 30 league matches, making him the leading marksman of the Super Lig. Additionally, he established a career-best tally of 47 goals along with eight assists in 41 appearances overall.
The Nigerian player's tenure at Galatasaray has come to an end, and he will definitely not be going back to his parent club, Napoli, following the deterioration of their relationship last summer.
It is thought that the contract of the 26-year-old at Napoli includes a release clause worth around £63.3 million for teams based outside of Italy. Osimhen has reportedly attracted interest from clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Al-Hilal.
Meanwhile, Saudi club Al-Hilal have initiated negotiations to acquire Osimhen, according to renowned transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Sources reveal that the Saudi side have offered €70m for the 26-year-old.
Of that sum, €65m is proposed to be paid upfront, with the remaining €5m structured as performance-related bonuses.
Osimhen's contract with Napoli extends until the end of June 2026. As per Transfermarkt, his current market valuation is €70 million.
