Gasperini Takes Over as Roma Manager, Replacing Ranieri

A.S. Roma has hired ex-Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as their new head coach on a three-year deal.

Gasperini, having led Atalanta to a third-place finish in Italy's Serie A and securing their spot in the Champions League this campaign, takes over from Claudio Ranieri.

The former Leicester City and Chelsea coach resigned from his managerial position following his guidance of Roma to fifth place in Serie A and securing a Europa League spot.

Last November, Ranieri returned from retirement to become Roma’s manager after Ivan Juric was dismissed. The 73-year-old has now transitioned into an executive position within the club.

Gasperini, who is 67 years old, led Atalanta for nine years and secured their victory in the Europa League during the 2023-24 season after defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

"Creative tactics, commitment to diligence, and outstanding player development characterize Gasperini's career," Roma stated.

Ownership and Claudio Ranieri both agree that Gasperini is the right person for this task.
