Flag football: Section 1 finals set for Saturday

Matchups are set for Saturday's Section 1 flag football finals at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak.

Class A: No. 1 Scarsdale vs. No. 3 Arlington, 11 a.m.

Class B: No. 1 Brewster vs. No. 2 Tappan Zee, 1:30 p.m.

Class C: No. 1 Hendrick Hudson vs. No. 2 Ardsley, 4 p.m.

Scarsdale beat Carmel 27-0 on Wednesday, while Arlington upset New Rochelle, 13-6. Top seeded Scarsdale (18-0), last year won the Section 1 Division 1 title and fell in the New York State championship final in 2024, earned the top seed in Class A. Arlington (12-5), in its first year as a program, is on a 10-game winning streak.

In Arlington's semifinal win, Gianna Martin had a rushing touchdown and Senoia Salmon had a receiving touchdown. Jamie Gemmel had seven flag pulls and Jazzy Triunfo had an interception.

Brewster (18-0), which last year won the Section 1 Division 2 title, beat Horace Greeley 12-0. Unbeaten Tappan Zee (17-0) beat Yorktown 14-0.

Ava Fagin threw for two touchdowns and 117 yards and added 84 rushing yards for the Bears. Avery Dudones and Sofia Rosamilia added touchdown receptions for Brewster.

For Tappan Zee, Eve Girardi was 16 for 28 for 81 yards and two TD passes. Nina Vasquez had seven catches for 51 yards. Ella Sabatini had three receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown. Jody Long had three receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown.

In Class C, Hendrick Hudson beat Westlake/Briarcliff 39-18. In the other semifinal, Ardsley beat Bronxville, 26-13.

In Hen Hud's semifinal win, Lucy Mager figured in to six scores - with five passing touchdowns (she threw for 238 yards) and one rushing touchdown (ran for 124).

Section tournament winners advance to the state tournament.
