Dembélé and Barcelona Out for France's Nations League Third-Place Showdown
French attackers Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola have been confirmed as unavailable for the upcoming UEFA Nations League third-place game against Germany, set for Sunday in Stuttgart, according to an announcement from the French Football Federation (FFF) on Friday.
The FFF stated on its website that both athletes, who are presently with Paris Saint-Germain, have been sidelined by injuries and have left the national team training camp to return to their club.
During Thursday's 5-4 semifinal defeat against Spain, Dembélé had to be replaced due to a left quadriceps strain. Tests indicated a muscular tear, suggesting he will require between two to three weeks to heal fully. Consequently, his participation in PSG’s upcoming FIFA Club World Cup match against Atlético Madrid on June 15 in Los Angeles seems uncertain.
Meanwhile, Barcola is grappling with an issue concerning his right knee and is likewise unavailable for the game on Sunday. The FFF stated that head coach Didier Deschamps has decided against bringing in additional players as replacements for this encounter.
Following their respective losses in the semi-finals against Spain (5-4) and Portugal (2-1), France and Germany will go head-to-head for the third-place spot in the Nations League. The match is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 PM GMT on Sunday in Stuttgart.
The concluding match between Spain and Portugal will take place later that day at the Allianz Arena in Munich, starting at 7:00 p.m. GMT.
