Baseball: Tokoda & Montero Power Carp Past Lions in International Edition (English)
Hiroki Tokoda threw a complete game, and Elehuris Montero scored two runs as the Hiroshima Carp defeated the Seibu Lions 5-2 in interleague action on Saturday.
In the ninth inning, Tokoda (6-4) conceded two runs but ultimately closed out the game by inducing Yuto Koga to hit into a double play at Mazda Stadium.
Montero extended Hiroshima's advantage to 2-0 with an RBI double in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the third.
By the end of the seventh inning, the Carp scored an additional three runs against Tatsuya Imai (5-2), who is one of the top pitchers in Japan.
In other interleague matches during the day, the leading team of the Pacific League, the Nippon Ham Fighters, defeated the DeNA BayStars with a score of 7-4. Meanwhile, the Yomiuri Giants ended their five-game losing streak by beating the Rakuten Eagles with a score of 2-0.
