Woman crashes into Fort Stewart railroad tracks after medical emergency
A woman was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after her car ran off Glenn Bryant Road and damaged a section of railroad tracks owned by Fort Stewart. Officials say a medical emergency may have caused the crash.
It happened shortly after 7 p.m., when the woman’s vehicle left the roadway and struck the tracks, which are part of the military’s railway infrastructure.
Sign up for our NewslettersGeorgia State Patrol Trooper Christopher Ashdown was one of the first on the scene, along with officers from the Hinesville Police Department. After speaking with accident investigators from Fort Stewart, it was determined the military would take over the investigation since the tracks are on federal property.
The woman was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center for treatment. Her current condition hasn’t been released.
Trooper Ashdown confirmed that the tracks were indeed damaged in the crash, but there’s no word yet on the extent of the damage or how it might impact operations.
Authorities haven’t released the driver’s name, but say the incident highlights the importance of pulling over and seeking help if you begin feeling unwell behind the wheel.
