Miami Hurricanes Player Injured as Tragic Crash Claims 3 Lives, Including 2 Children

Miami Hurricanes Linebacker Adarius Hayes was one of those hurt in a collision on Saturday that resulted in three fatalities, including two children , police said.
Around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, an accident between two cars took place at the crossing of Orangeview Drive and Ridge Road in Largo, which is close to Tampa and happens to be the birthplace of Hayes. The Largo Police reported that a Dodge Durango moving south hit a Kia Soul as it attempted to make a left turn.
The police have confirmed that Hayes, who is 20 years old, was driving the Durango. TheMiami Hurricanes stated on Monday that he was admitted to the hospital but has now been discharged.
The police mentioned that they found no indications of impairment for either driver, and they do not think alcohol played a role in the accident.
Three deaths have been confirmed, including an elderly driver and two children.
According to officials, the accident resulted in fatalities for three out of the four people inside the Kia. The two young victims—10-year-old Jabari Elijah Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Herbert Solomon Rivera—who passed away at the site, had been initially recognized as the deceased passengers.
On Sunday, authorities reported that the operator of the Kia Soul, 78-year-old Gail Price, succumbed to her wounds as well. Notifications have been made to her family members. Police stated that the mature male occupant sitting upfront in the Kia, identified as 58-year-old Herbert Rivera, was transported to a medical facility due to severe injuries sustained during the incident.
The Largo Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is still investigating the factors that caused the accident, with speed being one of them. Criminal charges have not been brought yet as they will depend on the results of the ongoing probe.
Hayes recovering, UM saddened by loss of life
Last season, Hayes participated in 12 matches predominantly on special teams during his rookie year. As an exceptionally sought-after athlete with a four-star ranking coming out of Largo High School, he garnered attention from leading collegiate powers such as Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.
"The University of Miami Athletics Department has issued a statement regarding an incident: On the evening of May 10th in Largo, Florida, a vehicle collision took place which involved student-athlete Adarious Hayes. Adarious received medical attention at a hospital but was subsequently discharged. At this time, we are actively seeking additional details about the event. It is with profound sorrow that we acknowledge the tragic outcome resulting in three deaths, as reported by the Largo Police Department. Our deepest sympathies go out to all affected families and friends," stated the university’s athletic department.
No tickets or criminal charges have been filed, though the investigation is continuing.
Largo is located about 20 miles east of Tampa and roughly 15 miles north of St. Petersburg on Florida's Gulf Coast.
