Menendez to Report to Federal Prison on June 17, After Stepdaughter’s Wedding
Former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez will now surrender to prison in late June after a federal judge approved a request allowing him to participate in his stepdaughter's wedding.
Menendez, who was convicted of federal corruption charges last summer and sentenced earlier this year, has been instructed by U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein to report to prison on June 17 rather than June 6. The judge emphasized during his ruling on Friday that no additional delays will be permitted.
The wedding is planned for June 14 in Massachusetts, with the date being decided over a year prior, as stated in a correspondence filed by Menendez's lawyer.

Adam Fee, Menendez's attorney, requested the delay in a letter to Stein and noted that Menendez wanted to be able to escort his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menendez, who was also found guilty on federal corruption charges and is suffering from breast cancer.
"As the court is aware, Nadine’s medical condition — and additional impending surgery — makes it hard for her to travel alone," Fee wrote in his request. "Allowing Sen. Menendez to accompany his wife to their daughter’s wedding would alleviate this hardship and permit the family to be together for a meaningful (and perhaps final) gathering before the commencement of Sen. Menendez’s lengthy custodial sentence."

Arslanian Menendez's diagnosis delayed her trial multiple times before it began earlier this year at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. Courthouse in lower Manhattan.
The request was made several weeks after Stein rejected Menendez and his fellow defendants. bail pending appeal . New Jersey businessmen Fred Daibes and Wael Hana are set to report to prison on May 19 while their appeals are still under review.
What was Menendez charged with?
The federal indictment against all four co-defendants was first unsealed in September 2023 and was updated with superseding indictments three times — in October of that year and in January and March 2024. It alleged that Menendez, his wife and three New Jersey businessmen, Hana, Daibes and Jose Uribe, were part of a bribery scheme. Menendez and his wife allegedly received, among other things, cash, gold bars and a luxury car in exchange for the use of his political influence.
Uribe initially entered a not guilty plea but began cooperating with prosecutors. He changed his plea to guilty in March 2024 and testified at the nine-week trial last summer of Menendez, Daibes and Hana as well as Arslanian Menendez’s four-week trial this spring.
Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison, Hana more than eight years and Daibes seven years. Daibes was fined $1.75 million; Hana was fined $1.3 million. All three are appealing their cases.
Arslanian Menendez was found guilty on 15 counts after a separate trial concluded April 21. She is scheduled to be sentenced in June, but has a pending request to adjourn her sentencing until September.
