Kentucky Overrides Veto: Women's Health Bill Set to Become Law

A significant advancement for women's health in Kentucky will occur on Tuesday with the signing of House Bill 90.

The signature is symbolic since it occurs subsequently. A veto by Governor Andy Beshear which was reversed by the state legislature.

It will be held at 1 p.m. in the Kentucky State Capitol Rotunda with Secretary of State Michael Adams on hand as a special guest.

This legislation sets up licensing requirements for birthing facilities, enhances mental health services for new moms, and outlines circumstances under which physicians may deliver urgent medical attention during gestation.

Nevertheless, adversaries such as Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky have voiced objections, arguing that the legislation’s wording is overly ambiguous and might lead to unnecessary delays in providing urgent medical attention.

Beshear vetoed the bill after last minute additions from HB 414 raised the concerns.
