Justice Riggs' Supreme Court Victory Set for Certification on Tuesday: Watch Live Updates

Following an intense six-month contest, Justice Allison Riggs is set to be confirmed as the victor in the 2024 North Carolina Supreme Court election come Tuesday.

Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin conceded last November's election on Wednesday to Riggs, two days following a federal judge’s decision that thousands of disputed ballots must be included in the final count.

In a statement from his campaign, Griffin indicated that he would not be appealing the decision made on Monday. U.S. District Judge Richard Myers , who also directed the State Board of Elections to certify the results showing Riggs as the victor by 734 votes following two prior recount efforts amidst an election involving more than 5.5 million ballots cast.

"Although I don’t entirely concur with the District Court’s reasoning, I respect their ruling—as I’ve respected the decisions of all judicial bodies that have examined this matter,” Griffin stated. “I have decided against pursuing an appeal.”

Griffin's decision paves the way for Riggs to be formally appointed for an eight-year tenure as an associate justice in one of the country's ten most populous states.

Riggs will take his oath with the assistance of Justice Anita Earls along with North Carolina voters within the walls of the Capitol building located in Raleigh.
