Canoeist Tragically Dies During BWCA Expedition
A person who was paddling a canoe passed away after their vessel overturned on Iron Lake within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, as reported by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities state that at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service dialed emergency services after finding the overturned canoe. They located both the individual and their equipment drifting close to the upturned watercraft.
The authorities determined that the person in the canoe was a 62-year-old male resident of St. Louis Park.
The canoeist had a life jacket on as required by law enforcement. Authorities think the person was traveling alone in the BWCA.
The USFS Beaver aircraft was brought in to retrieve the body.
Currently, the identity of the victim is being withheld. The case is still under examination.
