Arrest Made Following Deadly Shooting in East Boston
A lone victim was left with critical injuries following a shooting in East Boston on Saturday evening, as stated by the Boston Police Department.
Around 10:43 p.m. on Saturday, police officers from the Boston Police Department spotted gunshots near 3 Lewis Mall in East Boston, as reported on Sunday by the BPD.
Upon arrival at the location, law enforcement officials discovered an individual suffering from several gunshots. As reported by the Boston Police Department, this sole victim—who had yet to be named as of Sunday—was transported by Boston Emergency Medical Services to a nearby medical facility where they were listed in critical condition due to their severe injuries.
A preliminary investigation led officers to identify a suspect believed to be involved in the incident and found them at the Maverick Square MBTA Station, BPD said. During the arrest and transport, the department noted, “several officers were assaulted” by the suspect. No injuries were reported.
The Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit is currently investigating the case.
Roxbury drug bust
The Boston Police stated that they apprehended a 27-year-old individual on Friday following the execution of a search warrant. The operation reportedly uncovered fentanyl, cocaine, and various other narcotics.
The Boston police carried out "thorough mobile surveillance" on the suspect, Jose Irizarry-Estepan, who resides in Roxbury. They observed him getting into a car on Tremont Street close to West Concord Street on Friday.
The police followed the vehicle towards Massachusetts Avenue, where they observed that the car had a "faulty brake light" and "heavily tinted windows," according to BPD. More officers were summoned, and they performed a traffic stop close to Columbus Avenue and Heath Street.
“Officers approached the vehicle, identified themselves, and informed the operator and two passengers of the reasons for the stop,” BPD said. “Officers quickly recognized Irizarry-Estepan as the subject of their search warrant and issued exit orders to proceed with the investigation.”
In the course of searching for Irizarry-Estepan, the Boston Police reported that they discovered suspected substances including eight small packets of fentanyl, eight plastic envelopes containing crack cocaine, two plastic pouches holding powdered cocaine, and an aluminum wrapper with both crack cocaine and marijuana inside.
The police said they also found an aluminum tray with loose marijuana in the vehicle’s center console. While later searching the other occupants of the vehicle, the officers allegedly found a prescription bottle on the second passenger containing a bag of crushed blue powder and seven brown capsule pills later identified as Hydromorphone, BPD said.
Irizarry-Estepan has been taken into custody and is facing four counts of possession with intent to distribute. He is anticipated to appear before the Roxbury District Court for his arraignment.
The second passengers will be summonsed to Roxbury District Court on a charge of Possession of a Class A Substance, and the vehicle driver was cited with a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for Defective Equipment (Brake Light), Excessive Window Tint, and Open Container of Marijuana.
ICE reports arrest
The ICE agency announced the apprehension of a reportedly unlawfully residing Dominican individual accused of armed robbery in Massachusetts during the past weekend in March.
“Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco illegally entered the United States and apparently decided to commit an armed robbery while wearing a mask,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde.
Arias-Polanco, now 27, was arrested by Dedham Police Department on Nov. 30, 2023 on a charge of armed robbery using a mask, ICE said. On May 3, 2024, he was indicted on the charge before Norfolk County Superior Court.
On January 5, 2025, ICE Boston filed an immigration hold with the Norfolk County House of Corrections concerning the suspect. According to ICE, Arias-Polanco reportedly entered the United States unlawfully at some unspecified date and time.
